October 2012

October was full of fun!  We got our family pictures taken, Ethan is now obsessed with Hot Wheels, and Jacob attended his first skate party!

Yay for Fall!

It's my favorite time of year!  The leaves are turning orange, yellow, and red.  The hot humid air is replaced by a cool breeze.  Bonfires, pumpkin spice everything, and hoodies...just brings a smile to my face!  During our walk on Sunday the kids decided to play in the leaves and pick their favorites for a craft.  Grandma Carol helped them glue leaves to paper and sign their name.

Easy Biscuit Donuts

These donuts are not only easy to make, they're easy on your wallet too!  I only spent $2 and made 36 donuts!  You'll never have to eat a cold donut again :)

Ingredients:
Can of GRANDS Home style Biscuits
1/4 cup Vegetable Oil
1 cup powdered sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 Paper Bags

 1. Cut Biscuits into quarters

 2. Using a saucepan heat oil to 200-240 degrees.  Drop biscuits into oil.  Brown on each side for 2 minutes.

 3.  Drain on a paper towel for a couple seconds then immediately drop into a paper bag with either powdered or granulated sugar.  Shake!

4.  Enjoy!

Last weekend I attended a going away party and wore a casual outfit that got plenty of compliments!  You always know you're doing something right when someone close to you recognizes it!

The outfit was a "foundation" of black.  Black knit pants from Express paired with a cowl neck black shirt from GAP.  I then paired this base with a colorful scarf from Express and taupe boots from Target.  The leather jacket I have is from Kohl's.  All the items I was wearing are from 2011, so I updated with the following outfit which is available online just by clicking the links below.

Whenever you get the chance to purchase items such as a basic tee or pants, always choose black or white.  You can play up these items with accessories and bright colored cardigans.  Also if accessories aren't your style you can wear the black outfit with a red lipstick and liquid eyeliner and hair in soft curls.

You can be certain that when my door opens a little Shorkie will be there waiting, anxiously shaking, ready to welcome you!  Bella is especially happy when Jerron comes home!  Every night at 6pm, Bella sits on my bed peering out the window looking for Jerron.  I always know he is home because Bella runs to the door tail wagging!  Jerron will pick her up and she goes CRAZY!  Bella gives Jerron kisses as though he's been gone for years.  In puppy time hours probably feels like forever!  Jerron's thoughts..."I wish everyone greeted me like Bella does!"

Ethan A.K.A Zombie Killer

When Ethan came out of his room like this (see below) I knew there was a good story behind it!  He told me that he was a zombie killer and would keep them from eating our brains.  When 12-21-12 comes, I'll be glad to have this guy by my side!

Jack O Lanterns 2012

Grandma Carol hosts a carving party every year and proudly displays our pumpkins (even if they are a little silly) on her porch.  I love the differences in each jack o lantern!

Pinterest has led me to many projects and recipes that I have both loved and regretted!  Tonight I decided to make a simple dessert brought to Pinterest by the blog "The Sweet Life".  Peanut Butter Cup S'mores Bars are right up my alley...chocolate, peanut butter, marshmallow fluff, and a sweet graham cracker cake!  This recipe was SO easy, but a little messy having to spread the fluff and crush graham crackers.  The bars earned a 4 out of 4 in my house!

Here is the link to the original recipe: http://melssweetlife.com/2012/04/05/peanut-butter-cup-smores-bars/.

The recipe calls for 16 Reese's PB Cups, but I only used 11.  Also I used 2 cups fluff instead of 1 1/2.

Happy 30th Birthday Jerron!

Last weekend we celebrated Jerron's 30th birthday! He requested a weekend of camping so that's just what we did! So we rallied up the gang and headed south to Brown County State Park!

Culver's was our first stop for dinner. Here we made everyone in the restaurant sing happy birthday! We arrived in Brown Co. late Friday night and pitched the tents in the dark. Luckily our "neighbors" let us borrow their lantern which came handy when finding the outhouse as well!

Saturday we went into town (Nashville, IN) for some wine tasting and window shopping. The town is so adorable and you can't help but want to live there! We immediately headed to a restaurant for home made fried chicken and the best biscuits and apple butter I've ever had! Again, we made everyone in the restaurant sing happy birthday to Jerron! HA HA! As we were walking around our group was approached by the MC to the annual outhouse races. We tried to talk Jerron into climbing in and without hesitation said "absolutely not!". Brandon and Jeff agreed to participate and Jeff won by a landslide! Fudge and ice cream tasting was next and I couldn't resist getting a waffle cone full of peanut butter chocolate chip ice cream!

Back at the camp sites that evening Jeff and Joni cooked a delicious meal of brats, hot dogs, and hamburgers. With our bellies full we started to celebrate! The neighbors came over with strawberry moonshine and poured everyone a shot to cheer Jerron turning 30! They also brought Jerron a gift of fake Viagra! Every car that drove by we made them say happy birthday to Jerron. Of course Jerron was way over the birthday song, which made it even funnier that we would sing it at every meal!

Sunday morning Jeff and Joni again made a yummy meal of pancakes and sausage. I made my last two s'mores and then started to pack all our stuff. The weekend was full of beautiful weather, laughs, good food, and great company! It was a quick, but wonderful weekend at Brown county!

I honestly never thought I'd see the day...Jacob got rewarded for NOT talking! Jacob's school gives out "Cub Stubs" to students who are doing a great job without being asked. Jacob got a Cub Stub for being responsible and respectable in the cafeteria! My baby's all grown up...*tear*

Another surprise on the Garber front...Jerron is a damn good barber! He cut the boy's hair Sunday and he did a great job! I want my money back Sports Clips!

On a side note...who's in LOVE with the new fall daytime TV schedule?! I am so excited! Not only did The Chew get a second season, but General Hospital is on in time for me to watch before Jacob gets home! Do you have a day time TV schedule and if so what is your favorite show?

The Old Fort is a Civil War reenactment in which families can come and interact with characters, go inside houses, and watch shows being acted out right in front of you! Jacob must've been having a great time because he didn't ask to sit down once! Ethan on the other hand told me he hated it...can't please everyone!
